OKLAHOMA CITY — The Regional University System of Oklahoma Board of Regents has named Debra L. Lyon, to serve as interim chief executive officer during the system’s leadership transition.

Lyon has served as general counsel for RUSO since 2017, advising the Board of Regents and the six universities it governs on legal, policy, governance and operational matters. She brings senior-level experience in higher education law, employment law, compliance, contract negotiation and organizational leadership.

“Debra has been a trusted advisor to the Board and our universities, and we appreciate her willingness to serve in this interim role,” said Board Chairman Lake Carpenter. “Her steady leadership and knowledge of the RUSO system will help ensure continuity as we continue our mission of serving students, supporting our universities and strengthening Oklahoma’s workforce.”

Lyon said she is honored to support the Board and the RUSO system during the transition.

“I appreciate the Board’s confidence and the opportunity to serve RUSO in this interim capacity,” Lyon said. “My focus will be on supporting the Board, working with our university leaders and helping ensure continuity as RUSO continues its important work for students and the state of Oklahoma.”

The Board is currently accepting applications and conducting its search for RUSO’s next chief executive officer.
