In 2014, the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes purchased the Hinton Travel Inn on Interstate 40.
The property is 120 acres, including the hotel and land surrounding the tribes’ Sugar Creek Casino.
The Hinton Travel Inn needed an update, but the tribes didn’t know where to start. Tribal President Terri Parton had heard about Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s small business services offered through the Business Enterprise Center.
It was the first time the BEC’s services have been used by a tribe, despite Director Doug Misak and his team reaching out to the nations in western Oklahoma.
